1.3 Pratt & Whitney Collaborates with Customers

Q1. How do Pratt's information systems enable company to get closer to its customers?

1. Pratt's information system is trying to keep up with technolgy. Before it was time consuming to get updates on their engines but now the customers have direct access to the Pratt's system.
2. Creating "outward-facing" portal that gives customers same access to the "inward facing" portal used by Pratt's employees is effective than the previous system used for this purpose which was more expensive.

Q2. Is it good idea to allow Pratt's customers to customise their browsers? What problems might the customisation process generate? for example could it lead to control issues? explain.

There are different group of users who access Pratt's system like customers, engineers, suppliers, partner companies and clients. Thus it is a good idea to allow Pratt's cusomers to customise their browsers so they can search for required information instead of searching for irrelevant information.
Customisation also helps pratt to keep track of category of users making use of their service, so they can improve their service as per requirement of the users.

Customisation process generates following problems -
  1. Process is very expensive.
  2. It takes too much time to update infoamtion each time there is an updation.
  3. May run into delay.
  4. Requires a separate team to look over this process.
  5. Mainting servers may be complex.
