1. Is MCI’s strategy of focusing on cafe’s & business centers a good idea? If not, where should MCI offer Wi-Fi access?
MCi’s strategy of focusing on café’s & business centers is not a better idea, on a profit based business perspective. Instead MCI can divert their attention towards getting more corporate coverage, only because the use of Wi-Fi is more in these big corporate offices , the numbers are big & so the profit of MCI.
It also becomes easy in handling hotspots in a corporate office when compared to managing the scattered small café’s. MCI can also think of having long term contracts for maintaining their hotspots in educational institutions, research centers etc…
2. Can MCI make money with its Wi-Fi offerings? Why or why not? Would you pay for the MCI service when so many free hotspots are available?
Yes, MCI can make money with its Wi-Fi offerings, but the key for their success lies in providing a secure, error free, efficient access to internet all the time…
One would really like to pay for this service as MCI has a software for wireless services beyond basic Wi-Fi data access, to identify currently available hotspots, choice of selecting local dial-up options when no hotspot is available etc. Also the company provides several encryption protocols.
